FAQs
Q: What is involved in a chimney cleaning?
A: During a chimney cleaning, we remove soot, ash, and debris from the interior of the fireplace and chimney, including the firebox, the smoke chamber, the smoke shelf, and the chimney flue. We’ll also look for any signs of damage or problems within the system.
Q: Will you also clean ashpits?
A: We do not clean ashpits.
Q: Will dust get everywhere during the chimney cleaning service?
A: No. Those of us at Your Chimney Sweep use incredibly powerful vacuum systems designed to capture and contain all dust and soot during the process. We guarantee dust-free service!
Q: How frequently should I have my chimney professionally cleaned?
A: Cleanings are recommended when 1/8” of sooty buildup is seen. Scheduling annual inspections will help you determine if your chimney needs to be swept more or less than once a year.
Q: How long does a chimney cleaning typically take?
A: The time it will take to clean your chimney system will depend largely on the chimney itself and its construction. Most chimney cleanings take anywhere from 30 minutes to over an hour.
Q: Can I have repairs made during the cleaning appointment?
A: We may be able to make repairs while we’re in your home for a chimney cleaning. This will depend upon the type of repair and the schedule of the technicians in your home.
Q: Why does an insert cleaning cost more than a regular cleaning service?
A: Inserts can weigh more than 500 lbs., and must be removed from the firebox during the cleaning process (unless the appliance has a positive connection). This added work is the reason behind the price difference.
Q: What is a positive connection?
A: A positive connection refers to the stainless steel liner connected to the insert for exhaust purposes. The liner will run the length of the chimney to effectively remove smoke and byproducts.
Q: How will I know when it’s time to service my dryer vent?
A: If your clothes are taking longer to dry than usual or your dryer seems hotter to the touch, it may be time to service your dryer vents.
